The editors daily blog

Welcome to the new-look iVenus website. I’m Venus, your faithful editor! Every morning at 10am the iVenus team and I dutifully dish you up daily feeds of the very latest in fashion, beauty, celebrity and much, much more. I also post my daily blog, which, with a little bit of help from my friends in the know, takes a look at the stories that everyone’s talking about, from the
latest headlines to the hottest restaurant openings. And it’s not just my little black book that I’m opening, I also dip into my diary and revealing the ins and outs, ups and downs of working in a publishing house. Don’t miss it.

CLOSET COUNSEL
The fashion blog

You would think that working for a fashion magazine would help when it comes to choosing clothes. Sneaking peeks at the new season trends, working with stylists and knowing all about any new label that hits Ireland before the deliveries have even been opened could make you quite the authority on the art of getting dressed. My reality, however, is somewhat different.
Open my wardrobe and you'll find directional (read: bonkers) flowy tops that would look more at home in a kibbutz than in Keogh's; spendy shoes that bring a smile (that swiftly turns to wince on wearing) and smart, I'm-a-powerful-woman-me trousers that rarely see the light of an iron's 'on' button, never mind of day. What I am good at, I hope, is giving practical advice to others who are a bit like me. This year I'll be sharing style news, views and solutions - I hope you can join me.

THE BEAUTY QUEEN

What's better than new clothes, a new handbag or new shoes (although only just!)? New makeup of course. It doesn't matter what shape or size you are. It doesn't care if you've had a bad week or are in the middle of a crisis at work. Makeup is a problem solver. It can heal wounds, hide broken hearts and make everything seem a little better again. I received my first makeup when
I was 13 as a birthday present from a girl I went to school with. I was thrilled – my mum was not. It was the kind of foundation that you got in the early nineties that looked like you had liberally applied camomile lotion to your face and let it dry to a cakey shroud. I was brought straight to the Lancome counter in Brown Thomas where mum bought me a more suitable set of makeup. And so a love affair with Lancome was born... and with Chanel and Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier and Armani and M.A.C and Prescriptives and Clinique and... well, you get the drift!

HAVE PASSPORT, WILL TRAVEL
The travel blog

Like the many Irish graduates who have beaten down the road before me, I hatched a plan to shirk the looming responsibilities of life post-college for just another year. With a group of four (technically defined as two couples), things began to take shape. We toyed with the destination for our great escape – San Francisco and New York were both appealing,
but Australia was shining brighter. We arrived in Melbourne three months ago and have since scored ourselves a sweet apartment in the funky suburb of St Kilda, close to the beach and a tram ride away from town. After an initial settling-in period, we scoured newspapers and the Internet looking for the right job. We all succeeded: one of us is a CAD technician in an engineering firm, one of us an electrician, one of us a pharmacy assistant. And the other? That would be me… and my job is a whole other story!

THE (MIS)ADVENTURES OF A CHOCOHOLIC

Why, you might ask, would this site have a chocolate blog when there is already a perfectly good and lovely chocolate section? Well, while the chocolate section of iVenus will be bringing you news on all things cocoa-related, I hope to bring you the gritty, real-life experiences behind the syrupy-voiced M&S-style ads.
The highs, the lows, the cravings – from the fancy creations you
you nibble on, to the cheaper stuff you simply have to gobble up. So stay tuned for the adventures and misdemeanours of a chocolate lover – it might not always seem sane, but rest assured, it will be honest. If this blog were a chocolate bar, I think it would come with the warning: 'Careful, may contain traces of nuts'.
