A WOMAN who went to hospital believing she had appendicitis instead gave birth to a baby boy.

Kimberley Robinson, 22, attended Hull Royal Infirmary when she began having stomach pains.

She had no idea she was pregnant and later spoke of her “absolute shock” at giving birth to Mackenzie, who weighed a healthy 7lb 14oz. Her son, now five weeks old, is said to be doing well.

The waitress, who lives in Hull, woke at 6.30am on February 1 short of breath and with a mild pain in her stomach.

Fearing a recurrence of recent problems she had suffered with her appendix, she called for sister-in-law Deanne Norris, 18, who rang for an ambulance.

She said: “Even as I got out of the ambulance I didn’t know what was happening, but literally as I walked into A&E;I could feel something happening to me.

“I was placed on a bed in A&E;and a curtain was pulled across, and when I got into that position I could see the baby’s head. I was in complete shock.

“They had barely got my pyjama bottoms off when he arrived.”

She added: “It wasn’t really painful and it happened so quickly. As soon as I saw him fully it was an incredible feeling. All the shock disappeared and I fell in love with him automatically.”

Doctors told her it is “very unusual” for someone to be unaware they are pregnant.

Ms Robinson, who is separated from Mackenzie’s father, said: “The doctors told me I had been pregnant for exactly nine months, I just can’t believe I didn’t know.

“My periods had been as normal and I hadn’t had morning sickness or anything like that.”

I have a wedding in two weeks, and I found the prettiest dress ever (and an absolute steal aswell) typical me left it to late to order it and now they don’t have my size. ARGH!
I spent the whole weekend trekking from Dundrum to Liffy Valley and then into town to find something similar..or just a dress, but couldn’t find anything.
Just thought I’d ask you girls to keep an eye out for something similar if your shopping online....

i bought this handcream and girls it great. im not sure if it says NNo or NND cream but its a white tube with pink black writing on. my hands are very dry and can be sore sometimes but in 2 days ive noticed a huge difference already. theyre much softer and not dry at all

You could have over 500 friends online, but a new study has shown that the number of Facebook friends you have bears no reflection on how many you have in real life. You have ‘friends’ online that you might only see once a year, or you might have some that you’ve never met.

Friendship is a now competition to gather more friends on your social networking page than anyone else we know. There’s no more having to gain trust to be a friend, these days we type in their name, send a friend request, and wait for confirmation. We all know that real life is messy, and virtual life is a whole lot easier and we can embellish a few memories and through our profiles make ourselves seem happier and more successful than we really are.

But while we are busy being Facebook friends online, we miss opportunities to do coffee, take a walk or give a hug to our real friends. So take time to meet up with someone you haven’t seen for ages and relish enjoy your real friendships.

The Take That singer – who wed his long-term partner Emma Ferguson last November – has confessed to being a serial cheat since they first started dating five years ago and admits he has been “an idiot”.

He said: “She loves me and I let her down. I’m really sorry. I have been an idiot, a d***head, a k***head. All of the above and more. It’s about me, my mistakes. Nobody else is to blame. I don’t know how many girls there were in all. Maybe 10.”

The 38-year-old star – who has two children with his wife, Elwood, three, and 14-month-old Willow Rose – admitted one affair with Neva Hanley, an accounts manager, continued for almost five years even though he always knew Emma was the one he would marry.

He said: “In my head there was never a time I was doubting getting married. It was a chance for me to put it all behind me and not make the mistakes I had made in the past.

“When I have been in a bad way Neva has been there for me. All the other girls were one night stands. When I was on tour, away from home on wild nights out, which was every night. I’m not in contact with any of them.”

The pop star – who claims he has been faithful since his wedding last year – wishes he’d come clean with Emma sooner but admits he hasn’t always been easy to live with.

He confessed: “I have been living with the guilt. It has always been there – you carry it around with you. It held me back in my relationship.

“Life was hard, I guess. I let Emma down. I was selfish and stubborn. If we ever argued, it was down to me.

“I have noticed a change since I stopped drinking, but I am quite difficult. It wasn’t the sunshine Emma was hoping for but it is better. I have always liked a drink and I am a party man.”

The ‘Patience’ hitmaker hopes Emma will forgive him but accepts the fact his confession may spell the end for his marriage.

He added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: “Emma is a strong girl. She has to do what is right for her and the kids. And I am here if she wants me.

“She is the best thing that has happened to me. I want us to grow together and be together – but let’s see what happens.”

Call for independent Tallaght X-ray inquiry

The Chairman of the Irish Patients Association has said that the proposed investigation into the Tallaght X-ray controversy should be a totally external inquiry and not organised by the HSE.

Stephen McMahon said that the agencies that may have questions to answer should not be involved in deciding the nature of the investigation and the membership of the team.

He also said that the inquiry would not need to be a lengthy one given that it will establish the processes that led to the X-ray backlog and related matters.

Details of the proposed HSE inquiry, which is to have an independent chairperson, are due to be announced shortly.

On Tuesday it emerged that a patient died when diagnosis was delayed at Tallaght Hospital because X-rays were not reviewed by a consultant radiologist.

More than 57,000 X-rays taken at the hospital between 2005 and the end of 2009 were not reviewed by a consultant radiologist.

The controversy only relates to adult patients and does not involve paediatrics.

In December, extra staff were appointed to clear the radiology backlog and to date, 34,752 of the 57,921 X-rays have now been reviewed and reports finished.

The hospital hopes to have the 23,169 remaining X-rays reviewed by May. The X-rays were for various tests including cancer, heart checks and orthopaedics.

The hospital has said that over 1,300 people have called its helplines since the controversy over x-ray review delays emerged earlier this week.

So far, 886 people have been called back and the hospital is working through the other calls.

The hospital helplines will operate over the weekend, from 10am-4pm on Saturday and at times to be announced for Sunday.

Elsewhere, a Monaghan GP has claimed that Tallaght Hospital is not the only hospital leaving GP referral letters unopened.

Speaking on RTÉ’s News At One, Dr Illona Duffy said she had been told that staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda were putting referral letters in a box as waiting lists were too long.

Morning all - missed chatting with ye all cos I was away on hols and tried to post but I guess you can’t post from overseas. Delighted to hear ye all had a fab time at the night out. The posts were funny!! I’ll definitely be there for the next one. Fiona - read your post about Dunnes, my daughter swears by them and the food is lovely. We go to the one in Beacon near Sandyford and its lovely, got all the stuff.

What’s everyone doing for Mothers Day and Paddy’s Day - no plans for either yet but it’s early days. Only got home yesterday at 4pm. My cousin and I were travelling since 9pm Wednesday night and I’m so tired but can’t sleep. I’ll probably go back this afternoon for a nap to catch up but I did sleep on the plane which was unusual. Probably hd something to do with the rake of wine we had the night before! Anyway I’m back safe and sound and we had a ball. I think Cape Town is drawing a sigh of relief that we’ve gone home!!! It’s coming up to that day again that some of you may not even remember and a few of you may find it completely pointless. Well I can honestly say that I am in the same boat as all of you but the truth is that the more you think about it the more you see the value to Mothers Day.
