Haven’t got your head around the styles to come? Don’t worry, help is at hand with our 10 essential steps to
dressing for autumn/ winter ‘11. Stick to these and you can’t go wrong...
Rule 1
GO RETRO
Delve into the fashion archives for a spot of decade-blending. Are you a 20s tassel-clad flapper; a 40s femme
fatale or perhaps a 70s disco diva? You decide!
Rule 2
GLAM IT UP
Last season’s Céline inspired sobriety has espoused a new age of polished elegance. Think hyper-feminine
silhouettes and glossy jewel tones. Best bet? Invest in a black lace dress for classic vava-voom – perfect with
pillar-box red lips and lust-have Louboutins.
Rule 3
MASTER METALLICS
Do daywear by adding a cashmere polo neck to a lamé skirt or a lurex-panelled shirt to a skinny jeans and blazer combo. Desk-todinner? Transform that LBD instantly with metallic heels.
Rule 4
SPLURGE ON NATTY KNITS
Ponchos are big news and perfect for transitioning from autumn to winter. Feeling the chill? Belt a cable knit
sweater over a pencil skirt or drape loose over a fitted maxi dress and Chelsea boots.
Rule 5
BUY INTO BURGUNDY
Hot colour alert! This season’s burgundy buzz is deep, rich and a welcome departure from fail-safe black. Wear it
head-to-toe; with natty neutrals like grey and navy or make it pop with patent accessories.
Rule 6
MAKE LIKE A BOY
Channel your androgynous side with tailored separates like tunics and cigarette trousers or a boxy double-breasted
jacket. Man up with a bowler hat and rogues; or modify the macho with sky-high stilettos.
Rule 7
INVEST IN OUTERWEAR
Shearling, leather and faux fur coats figure strongly this season, with the ubiquitous cape proving it’s what’s on
the outside that counts. Simply layer up and go.
Rule 8
CHECK YOURSELF OUT
Prints have acquired a mathematical slant with 60s-inspired checks and strong geometric shapes. Keep it
contemporary with on-trend print clashing or make like Burberry with a notice-me overcoat.
Rule 9
TOY WITH TEXTURE
Create visual interest with 3-D finishes like faux-fur hems, tactile trims and skin print shoes.
Rule 10
BIGGER IS BETTER
Turn up the volume with cocoon coats, bell-shaped hems and super-sized peplums in stiff bonded fabrics. For a
sleek look, keep separates simple, pare back accessories and add a must-have midparting.

STYLE JURY
We judge the celebs and their red carpet style choices with our expert Bo Tox
ABOUT BO: Bo is one half of the notorious Tox sisters, the other
one being Dee. The sharpness of Bo’s style is surpassed only by the sharpness of
her tongue, which takes no prisoners when it comes to fashion faux pas.
ANGELINA JOLIE at a screening of the The Tree of Life, Los Angeles
BO SEZ: My God, it’s been so long since we saw you in a bright colour Ange. This orange colour is beautiful on you, why not more often?
WE SEZ: Absolutely stunning! Your minial make-up and accessories really add to this look. No wonder Brad fell for you. Jealous!
DIANA VICKERS at the screening of the JLS 3D movie Eyes Wide Open, London
BO SEZ: No! This is a cute dress and necklace, and you’ve ruined it with those ridiculous shoes. Keep your feet under the table and you’ll get away with it.
WE SEZ: The top half? You look effortlessly chic, stylish and beautiful! Do yourself a favour and go barefoot next time – anything is better!
JENNIFER LOPEZ at the American Idol finale, LA
BO SEZ: Jesus wept, this is one of the most unflattering things I’ve ever seen you wear. NOBODY can pull off a sequinned nude jumpsuit!
WE SEZ: Sweet mother, with all the money and stylists you have, you pick this. THIS?!
JANUARY JONES at the premiere of X-Men: First Class, New York
BO SEZ: This dress is beautifully cut – it hides your baby bump perfectly. Very chic!
WE SEZ: What a yummy mummy to- be. You ooze glamour and elegance without showing too much skin. Well done!
SARAH JESSICA PARKER at the New York City Ballet’s 2011 Spring Gala, New York
BO SEZ: I see where you’re going with this but it’s just overly fussy and a little unflattering SJP – maybe on a taller lady.
WE SEZ: We love the detail on the dress, isn’t a cross-body bag a little casual for the red carpet?
PENELOPE CRUZ at the screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Cannes
BO SEZ: Oh, let me gaze up on your perfection Penelope. I love the sheer chiffon folds and train – exquisite!
WE SEZ: You went for old-school Hollywood glamour and we love it! Your figure is amazing and simple hair and make-up let the dress shine.
HALLE BERRY at the 2011 FiFi Awards, New York
BO SEZ: Yes Halle if we had your bod at 44, or at any age, we’d be showing it off too but while you look hot, it’s a little hoochie!
WE SEZ: Hmm, in two minds about this. While it’s very flattering to your body shape, it’s not so much, should we say, age appropriate! Actually looking hoochie isn’t appropriate at any age. Cover up.
ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY at the Maxim Hot 100 Party, LA
BO SEZ: Yes, I know you’d look good in a bin liner, but white is so on trend and the cut out detail is the right side of sexy. Flawless!
WE SEZ: We’re so jealous you manage to look super hot but classy at the same time. Love the clutch and nude shoes too.
MYLEENE KLASS at the Classic BRIT Awards, the Royal Albert Hall, London
BO SEZ: While it’s not horrendous I just can’t shake the feeling of bad prom dress which hangs around this number!
WE SEZ: There’s something a bit princess-y about you in this frock; we would have liked something a bit more grown-up.
FEARNE COTTON at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Carlisle
BO SEZ: You’re like Little Red Riding Hood’s demented cousin. Seriously, who let you out in that?
WE SEZ: Festival dressing is no excuse for this sloppy ensemble. Fearne, what were you thinking?

ABOUT BO: Bo is one half of the notorious Tox sisters, the other

her tongue, which takes no prisoners when it comes to fashion faux pas.
MILA KUNIS at Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Fun Fearless Males of 2011 event, New York
BO SEZ: Mila, I’m shocked. The top half is fine but those trousers are way too long. It looks like you have no feet!
WE SEZ: Generally, I like the colour of the suit but you’re dressing WAY older than your 27 years.
TESS DALY at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, London.
BO SEZ: You’ve been tangoed! Garish and ill-fi tting. What were you thinking?
WE SEZ: MY EYES! Tess, you’re standing out for ALL the wrong reasons. The word Tellytubby comes to mind.
MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ at the Battle: Los Angeles premiere, California
BO SEZ: Wow, it’s easy to forget how stunning you can look Michelle because you tend to go for a tomboy look. This is A-list style right here!
WE SEZ: Well done! And may we just say, wow, banging curves! Now if only you’d just shut your gob and smile.
MARINA DIAMANDIS at the Central Saint Martins MA Autumn/Winter 2011 show during London Fashion Week.
BO SEZ: Epic Fail. This is not interesting or quirky. This is just a mess.
WE SEZ: We’re all for colour blocking but not to this extent. And socks with sandals? Don’t get me started!
KRISTIN DAVIS at the 13th Annual Costume Institute Designers Guild Awards, Beverly Hills.
BO SEZ: There’s something a little too girlie about this. I like the shape but the giant spots are just distracting.
WE SEZ: The top half is lovely and highlights your waistline but it looks like there’s too much material in the length.
DIANA VICKERS atthe launch of ‘Get a Life’ Palladium Jewellery, London
BO SEZ: Where did you get this skirt? I love the pleats and the length is very of the moment. So quirky yet elegant!
WE SEZ: My, haven’t you grown up quickly?! I love this look on you. Even though it could be for a more mature lady, you pull it off extremely well. Top marks!
